Sensei William Essex began his martial arts journey at the age of four, became an assistant instructor by the age of 11 and a full instructor by age 15. Sensei Essex is ranked in Northern Praying Mantis Kung fu, Chung do Kwon Tae Kwon Do, American Tae Kwon Do, Modern Arnis, Small Circle Ju-Jitsu, Shorin Aiki Budo, and has trained in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, Pressure Points, Aikido, and Judo. Throughout his martial arts experience Sensei Essex has had the opportunity to train with many Grand Masters from the History of Texas Karate.
Sensei Essex Now Heads Aiki Karate Do Dojo Hombu and is founder of Aiki Karate Do. Sensei Essex's current rank is 5th Degree Black Belt as recognized by the Independent Karate Schools of America and the American Karate Black Belt Association.
Sensei Essex was in the U.S. Army from 1999-2003 during this time he served the United States in Multiple overseas deployments. Served as a Team Leader and Acting Squad Leader while receiving Multiple Honors and Citations for actions performed during real, and training missions including Army Achievement Medals and Foreign jump wings. Sensei Essex was also part of a team specially selected to instruct foreign allies in hand-to-hand combat while serving in the Balkans.
